Avalonia is an independent publisher specialising in occult, pagan, and esoteric studies, founded and owned by Sorita d’Este in 2005, as an evolution of a community site created by her in the late 90's. Established with a commitment to producing books of lasting value, Avalonia focuses on well-researched, thoughtful works that remain available and relevant for many years, rather than chasing short-term trends.

From its earliest publications, Avalonia developed a catalogue grounded in historical sources, mythology, folklore, and magical tradition, establishing a reputation for careful scholarship, clear sourcing, and respect for both academic and practitioner audiences. Over time, the list expanded to include translations, historical grimoires, modern research, and practitioner-informed studies. Authors published by Avalonia include Katie Gerrard, Yvonne Aburrow, David Rankine, Lesley Jackson, Daniel Harms, Jan Fries, C.A. Smith, Sorita d'Este, Gary St Michael Nottingham and Georgi Mishev, among others, whose work has become widely referenced and enduring.

As a small, independent press, Avalonia embraced digital technologies from the outset - including print-on-demand, short-run printing, and global distribution - allowing titles to remain in print responsibly and with minimal environmental impact. This approach supports sustainability while ensuring that specialist and niche work remains accessible worldwide.

Publishing across traditional boundaries, Avalonia brings together history, mythology, magic, ritual practice, and scholarship. Informed by the past and open to new perspectives, the catalogue reflects more than two decades of independent publishing, committed to making meaningful work available for the long term.
